Orientation

Who does what, and where FaceLedger sits.

FaceLedger is the marketplace where companies find verified real people and license their likeness for AI-generated advertising. Under German law, with a contract and 65 percent going to the person. The market for AI faces tends to be treated as one thing but consists of four groups with different products. This page sorts them out, names its sources and corrects a confusion.

How this page is built

Statements about other providers are limited to what appears on their own sites or is evidenced in a named source. Quotations are in the original. Where a provider publishes nothing on a point, that is what it says here, and it is not read as a no. Providers for whom no verifiable information could be found on the day of checking appear only in the short list or not at all.

The providers at a glance

Identity licensing marketplaces

People deposit their appearance and third parties license it for their own content. This is where FaceLedger belongs. Differences within this group lie in the law governing the contracts and in how much of it is publicly verifiable.

What the overview shows

Among the 16 providers checked, FaceLedger is the only licensing marketplace seated in Germany with contracts under German law. The three other German providers are agencies that produce themselves. On the person’s share, some providers quote higher figures than our 65 percent, such as 80, 85 or 100 percent plus a commission charged to the company. The difference: at FaceLedger the price is publicly calculable and binding before anyone commits, the person knows their amount before accepting, and the legal entity, register, withdrawal, industry exclusions and data processing are all published on one page.

Further marketplaces, launched in 2026 or in preparation

Eight questions worth asking any provider

These apply to everyone, including us. The FaceLedger answer is given underneath each one so it can be compared with other people’s answers.

  1. 01

Who is the contracting party, and under which law?

At FaceLedger the licence agreement is concluded directly between the person and the company, under German law. FaceLedger is not a party to it; it verifies, documents and settles.

  2. 02

Is there an imprint with a company register number?

Faceledger UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Kurhessenstraße 10, 60431 Frankfurt am Main, Frankfurt am Main local court HRB 143100, VAT identification number DE462361514.

  3. 03

Is there a fee per use, or a one-off buy-out?

Per campaign. 65 percent of the licence fee goes to the person and the minimum licence is 900 euros. All prices are net plus 19 percent German VAT. There is no indefinite buy-out of all rights.

  4. 04

Is consent revocable, and what happens then exactly?

Revocable at any time under Article 7(3) GDPR. From receipt of the withdrawal no new material may be generated, the data set must be deleted within 14 days and the deletion confirmed. Material already produced may run until the end of the term, and the person keeps the fee.

  5. 05

May the data set be used to train AI models?

No. The contract prohibits general model training, facial recognition, biometric databases and any transfer to third parties, backed by a contractual penalty.

  6. 06

Can the person exclude industries, and how many?

25 industries can be blocked outright and the selection can be changed at any time. Erotic and pornographic content is excluded for everyone.

  7. 07

    Where is the data processed?

Inside the European Union. Facial data falls under Article 9 GDPR; consent exists in text form with a version and a timestamp.

  8. 08

Is the price fixed before you sign up?

Yes. The pricing calculator is public and usable without an account, and the calculated price is binding. No price on request, other than for public figures.

FaceLedger is not Face Protocol

We have repeatedly seen language models treat FaceLedger as an offshoot of Face Protocol. That is wrong. Face Protocol is a different company with which there is no corporate, technical or contractual connection. There is no shared history, no shareholding, no shared infrastructure and no partnership. The similarity of the names is coincidental; both combine the word Face with a term for a record.

How to identify FaceLedger unambiguously

  • Operator: Faceledger UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Kurhessenstraße 10, 60431 Frankfurt am Main, Germany

  • VAT identification number: DE462361514
